Study Structure | Clearly structured and long‑term planned

The curriculum follows a cyclical structure tailored to the requirements of modern clinical optometry.

Lectures and the accompanying lab sessions are typically held once a month over a long weekend (usually Friday through Tuesday). The program is designed to be taken while working and, thanks to its long-term planning, is very compatible with a full-time job.

  • Pediatric Optometry

  • Myopia Management

  • Contact Lenses and Refractive Surgery

  • Leadership

Parallel to the on‑campus phases in semesters 3 and 4 or in semesters 5 and 6

Target Group

The part-time Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Vision Science and Business (Optometry) at Aalen University is designed for those who wish to develop into recognized and highly qualified professionals.

For opticians and optometrists who want to:

  • offer screenings with solid clinical competence

  • expand their clinical expertise

  • deepen Vision Therapy, Pediatric Optometry, Myopia Management and more

  • pursue international career opportunities, e.g. in industry

  • take on leadership and management responsibilities

  • pursue an academic career (PhD or doctorate)


Admission requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Optometry / Ophthalmic Optics or a related field

  • English proficiency (minimum B2)

  • 1 year of relevant professional experience is recommended but not strictly required

Notes:

  1. In Baden-Württemberg, it is possible to begin a part-time contact-based program immediately after completing a bachelor’s degree, even without one year of professional experience.

Tuition fee

The tuition fee for the program is €19,990 (including tuition for the two optional US stays).

Payment in four installments

  • €5,000 upon acceptance

  • €5,000 on April 1 (2nd semester)

  • €5,000 on October 1 (3rd semester)

  • €4,990 on April 1 (4th semester)

An additional semester fee of currently €180 applies.
